Vyhledávače kromě stránek indexují i soubory (pdf, doc, xls, ppt, odt, ods, odp atd.). Hledaný obsah je možné parametrizovat dle kritérií (site:, -site:, link:, related: atd.). Vyzkoušejte např. do vyhledávače Google zadat níže uvedené parametry, které vyhledají veškeré PDF dokumenty na webu tomas.dankovi.info:

site:tomas.dankovi.info filetype:pdf

Níže je uveden příklad definice vlastního vyhledávacího pole dle parametrů Google Custom Search Engine (CSE) tj. např. vyhledávání pouze v PDF dokumentech (vygenerování zdrojového kódu vyžaduje Google účet):
